Youth Referee Camp Programs

REMINDER

Plans are underway for our upcoming referee camps this summer.  These camps provide an outstanding way for up-and-coming referees to work in a positive and constructive environment to take their officiating to the next level.  In addition, it provides them a unique opportunity to be seen by some of the top instructors, assessors, and officials in the State, which in turn helps their selection for prestige events such as the ODP Regional Tournament in New Jersey, the Region 1 Championships, and State Cup.

We will run two types of camps this summer:  State Referee Academy (full week residence camp to be held at the University of Richmond on July 17-21, 2005) and Referee Day Camps (one to be held in North; one to be held in Beach/Peninsula area which will be 3-day mid-week or 2-day weekend camps, non-residence, lunch provided - dates in August TBA).

State Referee Academy (Basic)

Designed for Grade 8 and 7 referees, 15-20 years old, who have officiated a range of competitive travel and house matches (both as center and AR).  Individual should have been an official for at least 3 years and have the endorsement of their home club and/or an assignor, assessor, or instructor.

State Referee Academy (Advanced)

Designed for Grade 8 and Grade 7 referees 17-24 years old who have attended the Basic Referee Academy, officiated a range of competitive travel, house, and State Cup games at the older ages, and have been an official for at least 4 years.  Must have the endorsement of their home club and/or an assignor, assessor, or instructor.

State Referee Day Camp

This is an introductory course designed for Grade 8 referees who are 14-16 years old and with less than 3 years of experience as an official.  Individuals should have officiated a range of house matches (not necessarily as a center) and possibly some travel matches.  The idea is for younger officials to complete this training to begin to officiate at older age groups and more competitive matches.  Hopefully, they will also be inspired to take the Basic Referee Academy in future years.

If you or someone you know is interested in attending any of these referee camps, please complete the application and mail it to the State Office for receipt on or before May 31, 2005, for consideration.  You may also fax to 703-492-1948.
