We are pleased to announce that Mark Geiger, FIFA referee since 2008, will be presenting at this convention. Mark started working in MLS in 2004 and has officiated about 80 MLS matches. He is a referee instructor and state assessor. In addition, Mark is the State Director of Instruction in New Jersey. Mark will present sessions on verbal and non-verbal communication and foul recognition/positioning and he will participate in a panel discussion about how the state can develop better referees.

 

Steve Taylor, one of our very own National Referees, will also be conducting a session at the Convention. Steve has been working MLS games as an Assistant Referee since 1996 and has officiated close to 150 MLS games, including playoff appearances and a conference championship game. He is currently preparing for his 16th MLS season. Steve will be speaking on what it takes to be an MLS AR and how to work as a team at the highest level.

 

We strongly encourage everyone in our referee program – referees, instructors, assessors, and assignors – to attend this convention. Besides the referee presentations, there will be an Awards Luncheon where our Young Referees of the Year will be recognized. There will also be an Exhibit Hall with many soccer-related vendors ready to discuss their products and services. Our Referee Program will have a booth. Please stop by and say hello.
